1-1 Therapy Sessions

Individual therapy sessions enable the creation of a personalised plan and holistic approach to care.

Are you feeling stuck right now? Wanting things to be different, and better, in the future and aren't sure where to start? Perhaps life doesn't look or feel as you would like and you are currently rudderless, living, but just going through the motions.

1-1 therapy sessions, following a Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) approach, enable us to come up with a plan together to help you solve problems that arise and learn new skills and tools to care for your mental health. Ultimately, DBT helps us look beyond the here-and-now difficulties that come with feeling things intensely and helps provide a guide to find balance and stability.

Some of the things these sessions help you resolve include:

  • Mood swings that you might not be able to explain or manage
  • Rumination and thoughts going round and round that you can't get away from - maybe lasting hours
  • Behaving in ways you don't like or understand
  • Feeling like you're doing all the "right" things (eating well, trying to sleep, exercising, seeing friends) and still experiencing low mood, depression, and anxiety.
  • Perhaps wanting to do all the "right" things for your mental health and finding it impossible to fit into a busy life and keep up
  • Being unable to calm down when feeling upset, angry, or anxious
  • Feeling disconnected from yourself and others

My training and practice in DBT enables me to offer skills and solutions, to the problems above and more, including:

  • Increasing self-acceptance
  • Self-compassion
  • Mindfulness skills
  • Emotional regulation
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Cognitive (thoughts) and behaviour change
  • Being able to act effectively and wisely - even when feeling emotional
  • Learn to make conscious decisions rather than acting on your mood

DBT includes aspects from various therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Behavioural Activation, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). In our sessions we will weave together the skills of both change and acceptance.

As part of our work you will receive various handouts, resources and information to develop and then be able to practice the skills that you are learning. Sessions will include practice and an opportunity to problem solve what may get in the way of these new tools being helpful.

For example; if you are trying to practice mindfulness at home but keep running out of time, we can think together of ways to make practice fit into your life in a convenient way.

Prices

Single face to face or online appointments : £60

I encourage people to try and pay for the month or a block of sessions in advance or offer "Pay as You Go" options.

I would recommend that people plan to have and commit to weekly sessions whenever possible. Sessions last for about an hour.

I will give an estimate of the number of sessions you may require individually following your initial assessment but most people I work with often require 12-14 sessions after their initial appointment. Some choose to continue beyond this if they are wanting to further develop their skills and understanding while others may have everything they need from this number of sessions and we can then finish our work together.
