Hi! I'm Hannah, therapist here at Beyond Therapy. I'm a Dialectical Behavioural Therapist (DBT) and Registered Mental Health Nurse, meaning that I have experience in a broad range of approaches and treatments for various symptoms of mental ill health.
I studied Mental Health Nursing at the University of East Anglia and have always had an interest in what makes us who we are, why we do what we do, and wanted to help people learn to manage their mental health and improve their lives.
Having lived with anxiety myself for many years I hoped my experience of recovery and gaining the tools to manage these symptoms was something I could share with others.
After qualifying as a nurse, I spent 10 years working in the NHS in Community Mental Health services. I completed my training as an Intensively Trained DBT Therapist in 2020 and began my practice, developing my skills in this treatment approach throughout the pandemic and beyond. I have also undertaken additional training and development, finishing a Post-Graduate Diploma in DBT in 2024.
I believe that we can all benefit from learning additional skills to manage our mental health, wellbeing, and improve our resilience to face the challenges of the society we are currently living in.
With this in mind, I practice what I preach and am a convert to mindfulness (believe me - my initial thought was "Ugh... Mindfulness... what a load of tosh!"). My personal favourite practices are balancing eggs, when exercising, or anything involving eating chocolate.
Generally sessions with me will include some fun and creativity. I'm quite a playful person and one of the things I love is helping people find their sense of joy in the world again and reintroduce fun (in whatever way that looks) back into their lives.
At weekends I can be found challenging myself mentally and physically and recently completed a 100+ mile challenge running, cycling, and kayaking from Inverness Fort William. I love applying the tools I teach to challenging situations like this and feel proud now of the mental 'toughness' that I have developed in recent years and can vouch for the skills in providing a structure and support to do this.
In addition to my therapy training, I am also a qualified gym instructor, running sessions at HSpaceMovement. If you want to combine your mental health treatment and exercise programme into one then get in touch to see how we can support with this.
